It must have been so fascinating to see that but I could understand why you were happy to leave after a week. I'm sure that's let up some now that the wall has collapsed. I'm really hoping I can score a deal the air fare is brutal.

Ricardo: About Berlin, it's a 24-hours-a-day city, like New York. It has that same electric energy that New York has.

And it's sort of like Los Angeles in that it's spread way out (but it has excellent mass transit). And it has that same transient-rootless quality that L.A. has; a lot of people seem to be originally from other parts of Germany.

It has an odd combination of angst and intensity; it was a fascinating place but I was more than ready to leave. Also, when I was there the Berlin Wall was still up; Berlin was surrounded by East Germany. So there's probably less of that angst and tension now than there was then.

Yep, I was talking about that genius philosophical man. He had a way through his humor of opening people's minds, and causing the slightest spark, or flicker. He caused a fire in many minds, and woke a lot of people up to the control of their lives.

I spent 2 months in Berlin a long time ago. I haven't seen much of the rest of Germany. Berlin is a bizarre place; totally unlike any city in the U.S., Germany or anywhere else in Europe.
