Growing revenue year over year opens the door to attempting to grow it through shady underhanded means like inflating prices for no reason, arbitrary fees, falsification of information and so on.There is nothing wrong with growing a business but the means by which these people technically "grow" their business is a joke. I will never be fooled again by these clowns.

What bothers me most is how value has been divorced from monetary ideas of success. This was really driven home for me a number of years ago when, while working in a fairly nice restaurant that claimed to pride itself on the excellence of it's food and service, I was given a business card sized copy of the company mission statement that I was asked to carry on my person at all times whilst at work.

I was amazed to discover that the bulk of the mission statement was about money, not excellence of craft. The words, "Our biggest goal is to increase same-store sales and profits year after year," really stick out in my head.

The theory was supposed to be that, if you're really good at something, you'll make money at it, presumably more money than those who aren't as good at whatever you do. That's not the case anymore and it's tragic.

Well, major corporaions have always displayed the attitude "don't hurt us, or everybody gets it," an offshoot of the old maxim "What's good for GM is good for America."

Of course, GM manufactured Panzer tanks for the Nazis during WWII vi their Opal division. That was great for GM. Not too good for Allied soldiers.

Actually, we haven't really been in a true capitalistic society since I was a teenager. Through the go-go years of mega-conglomeration during the 1970s, we've turned into something else: the technical term is 'oligopoly.'

The effects of this can be most readily apparent in the bailout, which should have exposed once and for all the inviability of capitalism as an economic philosophy. It looks good on paper, but presumes that the class that makes decision will not succomb to human desire, powerlust, phobia of mass empowerment, and so on.

I've had it up to here with these Wall Street scumsuckers, as I'm sure most people have.

They want a trillion-dollar handout with no strings attached whatsoever. Big government is evil and socialistic and it strangles the economy, but that free money sure is nice. The Wall Street crooks have gotten too good at saying "ooohhh, please help me, I need another handout -- don't you dare tell me what to do, Commie!"
