The Honest Scrap

I will break tradition and do this meme for Mimi over at Mimi Writes because she's the Queen of Bloggingham and I simply can't say no to royalty. No, really, she is. It says so in her profile and she has moats and dungeons.
old VHS tapes
So with that, I will begin. I'm to list ten true things about me.

1. I have a massive collection of films on VHS that I have no clue what do do with. I have several hundred, actually. I have no VCR anymore and I have a good mind to toss them but some films are rare and out of print or are versions of famous films that can't be found anymore. What's a movie lover to do with dated media?

2. I was an avid comic book collector in my youth and had quite a collection. The books went up in car explodingflames when I had to store them at a family member's house that burned down. No one was hurt.

3. Both my estranged mother and I have the distinction of owning cars that have exploded.
Dominos Pizza
4. Legend has it that the reason Domino's Pizza no longer has a 30 minute guarantee is because of the death of my grandfather (on my father's side, who I never knew) and many other people around the country through the late 80s and early 90s. They were hit and killed by delivery drivers rushing to make the deadline which resulted in some massive lawsuits. Relatives say his death was a blessing in disguise because he was going to die anyway of cancer of the liver and various other illnesses with a low survival rate. A musician by trade, he lived hard and died fast.

5. Despite not being a country music man, I have several Glenn Campbell songs on my iPod. His version of Gentle on My Mind is pure gold. If you could put a reflective drive through the countryside into music, this is the song. Pleasant sounding on the surface, melancholy under the skin and heartfelt at its core. Very hard to do. Brilliant. Yes I have Wichita Lineman, By the Time I get to Phoenix and Rhinestone Cowboy on there as well. All gold!

6. I've become an excellent lucid dreamer. In fact, I can wake up for a few minutes and jump back into it. I'm sure many people can do this New York Metshowever but I'd just figured I'd share it anyway.

7. While I never write about sports here, I am a huge NY Mets fan and am furious at their performance this far. It's still early in the season but I'm annoyed. I'm a NY Knicks fan also, but they seem to be going out of their way to make me abandon them entirely. And yes, I scream at the TV while the games are on.

8. I performed poorly on my SATs and I'm proud of it. I made patterns on the sheet where you fill in the bubble. Personally I find such tests to be a bunch of garbage and I bet I'm smarter than a lot of the self righteous idiots that scored high. In fact, I wound up going to a better University than they did. I just couldn't afford it.

9. In the real world there is a wide spread belief that I don't understand "real love." In reality it's not that I am incapable of it, I just don't by into their dysfunctional interpretation of it. When the best they can muster is the stuff of greeting cards and bad love songs, I'll sit out on the "true love" thing until something deeper comes along. In the meantime, I continue to be vilified and labeled a shallow man by friends who marry. I guess they need something to point to in order to feel better about themselves.
Jane Fonda in Barbarella 60s
10. I feel, beyond the shadow of a reasonable doubt, that Jane Fonda in Barbarella is the hottest woman ever. That doesn't mean that I expect ALL women to look that way. That doesn't mean that I condone the Hanoi Jane incident. That doesn't mean that I expect women I date to fit some kind of Barbarella mold. I'm not transmitting, communicating, pushing or whispering any hidden agenda. I'm just saying how I feel, and that's what blogs are for.

And now I have to tag ten people to give the Honest Scrap IF THEY SO DESIRE. I'm not here to put anyone on the spot.
