Ladies and gentleman, I hate to be such a downer on Fathers Day but I was visited with some bad news in my fish tank a few days back. Springy, my African dwarf frog, has died.
This species is a great addition to any peaceful freshwater fish tank. They actually need to stay in the water at all times. Indeed, these frogs can come out and hop around for a short while, but without water they'll dry out quickly and die. They're quite small and not at all aggressive which is a big bonus.
While Springy died of natural causes, I think now is as good a time as any to give my friend a proper eulogy.
(clearing throat)
Springy was a good frog. No, she was a great frog. Springy, I recall the first day I purchased you from the pet store. When I tried to put you in the tank, you jumped out of the net and found the rest of my apartment to be more to your liking.
In the tank you were queen of your own castle and lived your life with hopping mad vigor. The other fish had but no choice but to follow your lead.
Your hours long posturing in zen like positions (standing on one foot while looking to the heavens) was not laziness. It was a reflection of your deep.....er....thought on the....er problems facing the word.
(coughing)
Springy didn't need a man in her life to be happy, she jumped to her own drummer. And while she was camera shy, she was always front and center come feeding time. How could I and your tank mates forget you pressing your hands and face against the tank to get a closer look at the frozen blood worms I was about to feed you. You were like a kid looking through a toy store window.
My dear Springy, you were a true lady of the tank. You will be missed. While it pains me greatly to send you off one last time (flushing) your hopping mad legacy will live on. Sure there may be other jumping kinsmen from Africa in the future, but they all always second to you.
So...does anyone wanna join me in singing Amazing Grace or something?
Coming up....
Leon's Hulk Tag
and....
Thank you! I have lots of fellow bloggers to thank and this is my chance to do it. Join me in showing my gratitude.
also....

32 PEOPLE HAVE UNLOADED:
Poor Springy! He led a good life.
I will drink to his memory. But you will meet him in the beyond.
Sure. I'm a little rusty... What key?
Rest In Peace Springy. How old was she?
I've become pretty attached to my catfish family, so I can relate to your loss. I was sad when one of them 'disappeared'.
I feel for your loss I had a wolf named Wappa. She died young; I openly cried for months at night looking at the stars wondering where she had gone. I am in Honduras now; I will send you anykind of reptile you want. We got them all. I care for all animals, but the damn tree frogs really give me the hebbie jebbies; cause they got suction cups, and are always catching me off gaurd on my motorcycle. Clinging to my leg. I've finally realized that they were what was on me, and now stop to let them off the bike. They also give great halucinagenic affects if licked. on a side note from your grief:
I pasted a vile hate filled forward along with important points about how it is subliminally targeting Christian Americans, or just regular "Six Pack Joes". I am going to leave it up, and not post for a few days; because not only my facts, but the forward itself is long. Feel free to copy paste forward, or flat out steal it, and say it is yours!!
Peace and Freedom
Maritza - A life of hopping mad goodness.
Enemy - LOL! Yes we shall meet again.
Urban - You're now part of the U N L O A D E D glee club.
Leah - She was about a year old and I've read they can live up to 5 years. I had a catfish that vanished also!! What are the chances of that? Do they have powers of teleportation that we don't know of?
American Hillbilly - What are you doing all the way down in Honduras? I bet there are some beautiful spots down there. I've seen those frogs with the suction cups. That's kind of funny that they are using you as a taxi service.
I'll take a look at your post.
Oh she croaked did she?
Sorry. That was nasty.
SJ - HA! That's brilliant and I regret that I didn't think of it before you did!
Ricardo,
I along with a few friends are taking aggressive action at protesting the war!!! We will not be back until it stops. If that means being broke, and working for $10 day at best so be it. I am not kidding about finding a way to send you a reptile. The iguanas get huge, they even have little suckers that are about a foot tall, and run on their hind legs; like the bad dinosaurs in Jurassic Park. My email is important; take it steal it, say it is yours!!! I looked the guy up that wrote the forward, and he does apparently take credit for writing the vile forward!
I did think about your loss tonight, and remembered that it has been 3 1/2 years since loosing Wappa. They will always be with you in your memories!
We've had funny blogs, and we are going to again. We were voted in the top 50 funny blogs; at some point, but a drunken night with me commenting at my brother in law for betrayel got us more, or less shut down. Let me tell you it took a while to get back in good graces with my wife; as far as my cunado I still hate him because of his two faced nature. The blog that I am working on now is strictly political with my satire. It is important because everyone in the World used to love Americans/US, but now we say were from Canada. I do my blog at great risk; for example a little known fact is now we have the 4th fleet patrolling, and harrassing the Caribbean. I just want what I state when I end a statement, again my thoughts are with you on the loss of your compadre
Peace and Freedom
I love singing Amazing Grace! But my son's still asleep, so I'll have to join you in a few moments.
I'm sorry you lost Springy but gotta say, you run an awesome blog around here! Questions of morality or ethical behavior or social patterns or whatever that last post was about, interviews about boobies, and now affection and sentimentality for a frog! I love it Ricardo!!!!!!!
It was a fine, fine eulogy. By Springy.
Sorry for your loss. It's always sad when a pet dies.
SJ, didn't you steal that joke from one of the Shrek movies?
But it's a good one.
AH - Thanks dude. Wappa sounds like an amazing animal. I'm sorry for your loss there. So you are boycotting the US until this crazy war is over? I can understand that. I hate what's going on with it. We need to leave. I used to do political stuff here too. Once in awhile I'll take a shot at the big companies and stuff. But if you feel strongly about these issues then by all means, put it out there. Sorry your last blog caused you so much trouble. I would love a reptile but I don't want to put the little guy through the whole shipping thing.
Now without getting you into trouble with your wife, you gotta answer me this about Honduras; the women! How are the women?
Jill - Thanks for that. As I told you a while back, there is something for EVERYONE here sooner or later. If you don't like movies or pop cultrue we've got frogs. If you don't like frogs we got boobs. If you don't like boobs you've got stuff about my personal life. If you don't like that there's still more. I cover all my bases here.
Marsha - I've got a lot of fond memories of that frog.
Tom - sure it was no german shepard or cat but still it gets you none the less.
Enemy - I belive the last shrek film had a King that was a frog who died.
Awww. poor springy. It's been about a year since The Girl's betta fish, "pinky", croaked and she still has not gotten over it...
Missed you at the FC meetup... we're shooting for another in a month or so!
You would be amazed at the beauty between all of the Latins. To be frank: Mexican women are made like fine wine. Guatemalan women almost have a indonesian look, with nice butts, no tops though, rating them would be a very high quality beer. The Honduran/Nicuaragan/Costa Rican/Salvadoran women are similar
are also fine wine. Don't get me wrong Guatemalans definitely will turn your head till your neck snaps, but like I said high quality beer.
On another note the Girefonos(spelling) These are the African slaves; the ships carrying them sunk giving them freedom here, and some of the Malotos(spelling) mixes are out of this world. Drop dead gorgeous!
Ah, I forgot, we've got families of Geckos living in the rafters. They leave us alone; except when they drop a little bit of a roach, or other bug offering. I only mention this because they are singing/geckoing now. They just had babies 'cause I got little ones that are around an inch long running around.
Peace and Freedom
Manager Mom - Yes I am really dorry I missed that. We are totally short staffed where I work due to vacations and another coworker who had open heart surgery. So I have been working till 10 at night. PLEASE keep me in the loop for the next gathering. I really want to go.
I had a betta fish once myself. They are great little critters and it hurts to see them go. It hurts even more when you're a kid. And there is NO replacing Pinky. No fish will ever be the same. I had a goldfish that lived for a few years that I was really attached to as a kid and when he died I wanted no more fish. That was until a few years ago when I decided to set un an aquarium again.
AH - I gotta get myself down there. Send pics. LOL! As for the gekos, I think they are leaving behind little bits of roaches as gifts to you cause because they want you to join in the feast.
They remind me just of cats; leaving you offerings of dead mice. To the T.
I have decided, I've never been into lizards, but I want one of the ones that stands up, looks around, and then runs off on two legs...Missing link? I found it!!
RIP. My deepest condolences my friend! :(
Ahh sorry dude. My condolences.
AH - I think you did find the missing link. That's freaky.
Deb and Rolando - Thanks guys. I appreciate that and Springy is looking down at us all....smiling.
sorry about your loss brother....pets become a part of us, absorbing our consciousness in a non-judgemental way and when they pass a part of us passes also.
i still hear my dog rocky sigh sometimes at night.
he`s been gone now for 15 years.
Sorry about Springy. She did sound like she was very Zen. Maybe she wished she could do the Lotus pose?
You know I'd give singing "Amazing Grace" a shot! Unlike Urban, I have no "key"!
I also like "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot"
Dr.A - Yes even though Springy was not on the level of a cat or dog it still gets you. I'm sorry for the loss your dog. That had to have been devastating.
MsQ - I think you and Urban should do a duet.
Duet? Me and UT? Hehehe! Urban has a key to sing in. I think I lost mine...
I think it has award winning potential.
Umm..putting together a special tribute...if you're not still in tears, this might make you want to cry...
MsQ- I'm ready to be moved baby!
Stay tuned...
It was lovely!
